Finger Mouse

I've just been reminded of this brilliant 1970's children's TV show. So cute.

Take a look.

oh dear!

well, despite all the work I know has to get done before Christmas, I have once again moved sideways onto another completely alternative creative tangent.
I'm blaming repetitive pattern cutting for the past 2 evenings. and a particularly tough afternoon with the boys. I felt the need to do something quick and fun and that's when Maurice and Marco the Amazing Mouse Brothers evolved from left over calico, to rescue me from pattern cutting doom.
I hope the boys enjoy their new finger puppet friends in the morning.

return to proper Christmas work tomorrow, I promise........

Procrastinating again!!

Oh dear! Not a great creative blogging week for me last week, but a lovely fun week in other ways, mainly hanging out with Ned. It was my intention to keep as busy as possible so as not to miss Mum too much.

About the most creative thing I've done is drawing with Ned. He thought it was brilliant drawing around his hands and feet.
I also took some amazing shots of a peacock at the zoo with our little camera. Still working out how to attach pictures. Need to downsize them first.

As for my Christmas making, (deadline looming), I have really been struggling with the chores thing again this past week. I mean, my evening can't really begin until 8 -8.30pm at the earliest by time everything is cleared away from dinner and the boys are asleep. I'm finding it difficult to find the energy and motivation after the long day. I know its always worth it once I get started though. I figure even if I only manage an hour of work, it's better than not doing anything at all.

I was, however, very fortunate to have all of Saturday to make and do which was very productive, thanks to Ben for taking on the Saturday shift with the boys and giving me some space.

So, to a new week. My day is today and I must now stop typing and start making. The day goes so fast.

Teepee Cave

Ned and I have had amazing fun in the garden today in the Teepee I made a few weeks ago. (thanks Crafty Minx, and Simone for buying me the book). I just need to make a bigger version now for Dylan.

let the crazy christmas making madness begin

after a super amazing month hanging out with my gorgeous Mum and having said our sad goodbyes at the airport yesterday, I'm feeling at a loss and in need of some crafting activity to distract me away from the sadness.

as I type this instalment, my completely amazing husband is transforming the third bedroom, (guest room) into a working space so I can begin with all the projects I have lined up and waiting.
tick, space.
not sure about finding time though. I guess I will have to become a night owl and survive on minimal sleep for the next month.

night time will be the only time I will have to complete all my tasks as my 19 month old is currently very demanding on my time and energy as you would expect a 19 month old to be.

better stock up on fish fingers too.....

it's actually about me

some people believe it’s a blessing to be born with the ‘creative gene’. However, my experience over the past 6 years has proved it can also be a curse. Accepting that nagging urge and finding time and space to expand that creative gene has slowly been turning into a personal obsession.

For me at this juncture, it’s the need to escape the daily drudge of chores, which seem to consume my entire being since giving birth to my two beautiful children. The absolute boredom and relentlessness I feel while I’m sorting through yet another pile of washing, forces my brain to digress to far more interesting pursuits of an arty kind.

I have regularly felt utter frustration when a brilliant creative idea has to be put on hold, for the foreseeable future, while the next poohey nappy needs to be changed or that very uninspiring pile of washing needs to be put away, or the crusty dishes from breakfast still need attention. The list is endless and it seems a mother’s work is never done. However, my current predicament has enabled me to learn to prioritise tasks much more effectively than before, (meaning my house isn’t as clean as it used to be and my children eat fish fingers and baked beans more regularly than they should).
Letting go of a tiny bit of that debilitating emotion, Mother guilt, feels truly liberating. And guess what? My children are still alive and more than that, they are very happy children.

so at this point in time I do what I can to keep my creative juices flowing.I pick up my camera when I can and make quick sketches when I can, I cook new recipes and make cards and paint with the boys.

most recently, I organised and taught a team of mum's to make tissue paper flowers as decorations for the school fundraiser, which turned out to be very successful.
I'm hoping this will keep me going until I begin the crazy Christmas making month.
More on that later.......
